Contact a Family
Contact a Family is a national charity for families with disabled children. They offer support to parents and carers of disabled children as well as professionals working with families.
The Southwark office run events open to residents of Southwark who have a disabled child or children. They run:
- Regular informal workshops for parents where you can gain information, share experiences and learn how to help yourself and your child. Recent topics have included challenging behaviour, building healthy relationships and transfer to secondary school.
- An programme of events open to Southwark residents who have a child with any additional need or disability. Contact a Family plan, organise and deliver a six week summer holiday programme of family based activities, and can provide parents/carers with information on activities in and around the borough that they can engage in during the other school holidays.
- Monthly coffee mornings where parent carers can meet up and have a chat.
- A regular drop in on Monday mornings at Sunshine House where new and existing families can be referred to and can meet and speak to Contact a Family Southwark family worker.
Contact a Family Southwark have an e-newsletter, which offers information on forthcoming local workshops; activities and family event; local, regional and national groups and support organisations; other information for families caring for a child with a special needs. They can also help fill out Family Fund grant forms for children with a disability or special need alongside other grant forms which can be obtained from their office.
