About the service

Elva Court provides both long and short term support for up to 13 people experiencing mental distress. The building consists of 14 self-contained flats, each with its own kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. Residents are able to personalise their flats through interior decoration. One of the flats is allocated to staff who provide onsite support 24 hours a day.

The staff work alongside  each resident to agree a care plan tailored to meet each individual’s needs. Staff support each individual to lead their own care and support and to achieve their own personal goals, which could include: finding employment, gaining work experience or building their skills and confidence. The aim is for each resident to become equipped to live an independent, fulfilling life in their community. When residents are ready to move out, the staff offer a transitional service, including help with funding arrangements.

The staff team consists of a Project Manager, two Senior Social Care Workers and two Social Care Workers. One member of staff sleeps in every night.

Residents’ meetings are held monthly in which they can discuss ideas and resolve any problems. Once a week residents also get together and socialise in a community setting. The building also has a communal rooftop terrace which is an additional space to socialise in.

Elva Court is situated in the heart of a village on the outskirts of the sea-side town of Bexhill. There are a variety of local amenities nearby, such as shops, a GP surgery, a dentist and village green.

Referrals

Referrals are accepted through an Allocation Panel Comprising of ESCC (Adult Social Care), Rother District Council, Ability Housing & Together. To be considered an individual must:

• Have a diagnosed mental health condition
• Currently be in receipt of a Care Package that is funded by ESCC
• Meet the funding criteria (i.e. a support need of 10+ Hrs Wk)
• Have a local connection to the Rother Area

The service does not accept spot referrals or direct referrals to the service.
