About the service

Avalon is a registered residential care-home for eight people with a range of mental health needs. The house is a spacious two-storey building, set in large secluded gardens with an orchard. Each client has their own room, and residents share a communal lounge, kitchen/diner and conservatory.

All the residents, ranging in age between 21 and 75, take part in the cooking, shopping and gardening, and do their own laundry (facilities are provided at the house). They also help with the recruitment and selection of staff and in the assessment of potential new residents. Residents’ meetings are held every three weeks.

The staff team includes four social-care workers, who provide support 24 hours a day. In addition, a part-time cleaner is employed to maintain the communal areas. Residents are expected to clean their own rooms.

Located in a quiet residential area, Avalon is close to local shops and to Ashtead Common, a large countryside area. The local shops in Ashtead village are within easy walking distance. There is good public transport to nearby Leatherhead, Epsom and central London.
