Fundraiser Ellie Millar on trekking the Sumatran Jungle in Indonesia for Together
Ellie Millar is taking on an inspirational challenge to undertake a 10 day trek in the Sumatran Jungle in Indonesia and has chosen to raise money for Together for Mental Wellbeing. She shares a blog here on what the expedition will involve and how her own mental health lived experience was part of why she chose to fundraise for us.

Hello everyone!
My name is Ellie Millar and I am soon undertaking the mammoth Charity Challenge 10 Day Trek through the Sumatran Jungle Indonesia, in support of Together for Mental Wellbeing.
Im a 24 year old Wigs, Hair & Makeup Artist from Greenwich, London UK. Last year my friend Katy and I decided to do the jungle trek together. We were both working on Guys & Dolls in the West End when we decided it was time to do something crazy and rewarding!

I chose to support Together for Mental Wellbeing after meeting with them personally. I am forever inspired by this smaller charity and all the people they help daily. What I love most about Together is that they lift communities up by employing people that have been through the charities services themselves. These roles give people purpose, whilst in turn helping others realise their potential with advice from someone they can relate to.

The trek itself will be the toughest challenge I have faced both physically and mentally. I am determined to have a strong heart and persevere when it feels impossible. Most of all I promise to take it all in and be present. I will most likely never have the opportunity to do something like this again!
We (as a group of 5 currently) will face steep & unstable terrain, humidity, high altitudes, spiders, leeches, being constantly wet, abseiling, sleeping under the canopy in very basic conditions and any other jungle critter you can imagine whilst walking 5-6 hours per day with our lives strapped to the back of us.
I am hoping to see some Orangutans in their gorgeous natural habitats, and prove to myself that I am capable of anything !
I have struggled with mental health issues myself, so know how underfunded this sector is. That’s why it’s important to me to raise money and awareness surrounding mental health.
I have come to realise how important it is that we (as humans) have people to lean on when we’re struggling, and to not isolate ourselves even when this is the easiest option.
To anyone who donates, you are doing an amazing thing ! You are giving the gift of independence, and giving care to those who are unable to be independent. Plus, supporting me on my endeavours, giving me strength and reminding me what I am doing this all for.
