Latin American Women’s Aid Refuge (LAWA) is a UK charity that supports Latin American and other black and ethnic minority women and children experiencing domestic violence to start a new life and play a fuller role in the community. They do this by offering emergency accommodation along with a range of services designed to ensure high quality of service provision. LAWA has 27 years of experience successfully running the only refuge in the UK to Latin American women and children in their native language. They also provide comprehensive, culturally sensitive and holistic advice, including family and community outreach work in other areas of London.
LAWA offer one-to-one support, drop-in sessions and remote support via telephone and email for clients who have difficulties accessing our offices. Their comprehensive advice and advocacy services include:
• Personal safety planning
• Risk assessments
• Temporary accommodation
• Advice in the areas of: welfare benefits, housing, child support options, legal remedies, overcoming access barriers to statutory services, referrals to solicitors and accompanying clients throughout the legal process in their native languages, support with accessing counselling etc.
• Specialised support services for children
• Support with skills development (languages and further education)
• Family outings and social activities
