Black Carers Project Southwark is a community-centred initiative dedicated to supporting Black carers and their families. We understand the unique challenges faced by Black carers and aim to create a safe, inclusive space where their voices are heard, and their experiences are validated.

Through culturally sensitive programs, creative workshops, and holistic support, we empower carers to prioritise their well-being while building connections within the community. Our mission is to celebrate and uplift Black carers, ensuring they receive the resources, recognition, and support they deserve.

Join us as we build a community that cares for those who care.

Black Carers Project Southwark runs three different group workshops on an ongoing basis with a vision of building a network of black carers to offer a space to promote wellbeing, providing support and allowing time for creativity.

Our workshops are available to unpaid black carers who live and are registered in the borough of Southwark.

The aims of Black Carers Project Southwark are to:

  • Strengthen resilience and wellbeing amongst black carers in Southwark
  • Raise awareness and increase the use of preventative physical and mental health interventions amongst black carers.
  • Improve access to community-based support to reduce social isolation
  • Empower and build capacity and resources in the BAME voluntary sector

Did you know?

Pressures on carers are accelerating due to population ageing, increasing pension age, and shrinking health and social service budgets. Evidence highlights that BAME carers work longer unpaid hours, are more likely to live in poor health and face additional difficulties as they care; struggling with language barriers, accessing culturally appropriate serves and stereotyping around caring, which puts them at greater risk of ill health, poverty, loss of employment and social exclusion.

We offer three different group workshops which are run on a regular basis for Black Carers to share a supportive space to discuss and manage the challenges they face.
