Clifton House is owned and managed by Together. The building, a large detached house on three floors, is around 100 years old and was converted into a residential home in 1974. It has since been refurbished and extended to include two self-contained flats, and can now accommodate up to 22 people in separate rooms.
Residents range in age from their late 20s to late 70s. Staff work with people to help them to enjoy a life which is as independent and fulfilling as possible. This may include moving on to more independent housing when someone feels ready for it. The social-care staff team provides 24-hour care, with at least three members of staff on duty during the day, and two sleeping in every night.
Regular residents’ meetings give people the chance to participate in decisions about the day-to-day running of the house. A full range of activities is offered, including relaxation classes, walking, table tennis, football, swimming, gentle yoga and mindfulness exercises.
Clifton House is situated close to the main shopping area in Boscombe, about half a mile from Boscombe Pier and beach. There are several local shops just a few minutes away and a good bus service to Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. There are also good bus, train and road links to London and surrounding towns.
There are various local mental health day facilities including the Boscombe Centre, a local church drop-in, and one run by Mind. There are also good leisure facilities locally, including beaches, piers, cinema complexes, theatres, a leisure centre and swimming pools.
