The Barnsley Volunteer Befriending Service links people living with mental health issues to local volunteers who can offer them support and companionship.
This support can be provided for the short-term (3-6 months) or for the longer term (up to 12 months).
The befriending partnership between the service user and the volunteer explores goal-setting on issues like preventing social isolation, working on using public transport and increasing independence, volunteering and progressing into education or employment.
We offer both one-to-one befriending and social group befriending.
This service is for people aged 18+ living in Barnsley who are using secondary mental health services, i.e. local CMHTs (Community Mental Health Teams), or for people who have recently been discharged from CMHTs back to GP care.
The Barnsley Volunteer Befriending Service cannot accept referrals from single point of access teams in Barnsley.
