* Wellbeing Approach to Involvement
*
* We are committed to developing and supporting involvement that puts our vision and principles into practice. Our Wellbeing Approach to Involvement is how we do this.
*
*
Together's Service User Directorate was established to promote and develop service user involvement inside Together and externally. Our vision for involvement is of structure, safe practice, shared clear vision and wide networks. Our key principles are that involvement:

  • adds to individual wellbeing
  • supports local groups and communities
  • is service-user led
  • provides a collective perspective

The Wellbeing Approach to Involvement supports these principles by bringing individuals into a group setting where they can learn together. Through solidarity and shared experience people regain their confidence and purpose via training and quality involvement opportunities.

This approach can be delivered within geographical areas, specific services and community groups. It can be led and sensitively delivered by black and ethnic minority communities, lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender groups, remaining culturally and gender specific and catering for people with regard to their age or the level of distress they are experiencing.

Activities and support within the wellbeing approach to involvement include:

  • Training
  • Involvement Portfolios
  • Adverts
  • Role descriptions
  • Evaluation of the effects of involvement on individuals and services

These activities support involvement across the organisation in:

  • Recruitment - participating in interviews, setting questions, visits
  • Steering Groups - National Steering Groups, Regional Steering Groups
  • Policies and policy development - reseraching good practice, reviewing policies and their use
  • New business and fundraising - developing new services, participating in preparing and presenting tenders
  • Consultations - responding to consultations at local, regional, national and organisational levels
  • Quality Assurance and evaluation - Care Standards Committee
  • Campaigning - awareness raising
  • Admin - supporting local groups
  • Media - writing articles, radio/TV interviews
  • Research - reviews of literature, participative research
  • Training - facilitating events/workshops, delivering and being part of training/inductions

Documents describing the Wellbeing Approach to Involvement and how it supports principled activity in key areas are available to download below. Good practice guides and example role descriptions are also available from the Service User Directorate.
