Our partners in running this service Suffolk County Council
Referrals accepted from Suffolk County Council Social Services Housing Allocation Panel

The house at Verneuil Avenue was planned jointly by Together, East Suffolk Health Authority and Mid-Suffolk District Council, and opened in 1991. It sits at the top of a hill on the edge of a tree-lined housing estate on the outskirts of Stowmarket, a few minutes’ walk from beautiful open countryside. Eight people live here, all with their own rooms, sharing communal areas (including three lounges) and a small but colourful garden. There is also a patio with a barbecue, which is used in the summer.

Residents range in age from 35 to 65. Meals are prepared by residents with staff support. Laundry facilities are provided, and all residents do their own washing. The people who live in the house meet once a week to talk about the service and make group decisions. Weekly menus and a rota for the household chores are also agreed at the meeting. In addition to this, all users of Together services in the area meet up monthly at Get-together Group meetings for a variety of social events.

Together also manages a separate development of six self-contained flats in Verneuil Avenue. Residents who want to move to more independent housing can apply for one of these flats.

Residents enjoy supported holidays, day trips and local activities. Good local facilities include sports clubs, cinemas and day-centres. As transport in this area can be an issue for residents, a car is available at the house for journeys that would be difficult to make on foot or using public transport.

Local shops are about ten minutes’ walk from the house, and Stowmarket town centre, which has good shopping facilities, is about a mile away. Ipswich, Norwich, Bury St Edmunds and other local towns and cities, including London, are easily reached by bus or train.
