Media Community Network

Media Community Network Limited is a registered charity that lets young people speak through film about the issues they face.

For the participants, the key benefits of MCNLtd’s approach are:
· Improved self-confidence from exercising ownership of the film’s content
· Increased empathy for others, team work and co-operation
· Improved presentation skills, verbal reasoning and communication techniques
· Experience of practical film making skills, including interviewing and simple editing
· Simple research tasks including internet searches
· Achieving greater understanding of media and documentary formats including the usefulness of comedy to widen audience reach
· A solid contribution to each participant’s portfolio and personal profile while the wider community benefits from:
· Increased awareness of an issue and how it is viewed by the participants
· Participants improved sense of connection to their school, teachers, parents and the wider community.

Various projects catering for different needs and interests. Please refer to the website for more information.
An MCNL project can be delivered within a flexible timetable. It will involve approximately 10 two hour sessions, which may be integrated into the school timetable, or form part of an after school club. The group can number up to 10 actual participants (but not less than 6) and can incorporate the entire community through deliberate 'trickle down'.

The cost of implementation will be in the range of £6-8,000, depending on the logistics. MCN believes that the benefits of the project will far outweigh the cost, by bringing increased cohesion and the resolution of difficulties that can otherwise divert resources. This is quite apart from the benefits for the individuals, both inside and outside the school/after-school club environment.
