Ask Erwin is a registered charity set up to support and empower people to understand their health and social care rights. They aim to be alongside people, supporting them to access their rights when they are having difficulties; due to becoming older or having a disability or a long term illness. They particularly specialise in information about the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
Getting older or having a disability or long term illness can impact on your ability to understand and make decisions. It may mean that you rely more on family and friends to help you. It can also mean that sometimes professionals make decisions on your behalf. The Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) contains a framework for decision making to ensure your voice is listened to. Ask Erwin can help you and your family understand how the MCA can work for you, to empower you to remain as involved as you wish to and that your views are listened to.
Their information sessions and drop ins are free. You may also be eligible for free issue based 1:1 support.
