About the service

Limber provides housing for up to 11 people (current residents are aged between 36 and 75). The house is a large, detached, red-brick building with gardens at the front and the back, and a large patio area. It sits at the top of a steep hill in Loughton, Essex, on the edge of Epping Forest.

The team of two senior social-care workers and four social-care workers act as key-workers on a one-to-one basis with residents, encouraging and supporting clients to play a full part in the daily life of the house, and to become involved in the wider community. We also have students studying Health and Social Care complete weekly placements with us throughout the year.

Social-care staff and residents work together to prepare and cook all meals. Residents are expected to clean their own rooms, although a cleaner takes care of the communal areas (and can help people clean their rooms if necessary). A gardener works with residents to look after the garden. We have one cat, and additional pets may be welcome if other residents agree.

Residents meet twice per week to share views and information about Limber, and to make group decisions. Some residents choose to go on holiday. Individuals may go to the cinema, gym and local shops.

Limber tends to provide long-term care for its residents, but clients are encouraged to be as independent as possible, and if a resident does want to move out, staff can help them to find alternative housing and set up in their new home.

The house is within walking distance of Loughton underground station and bus routes into London and the surrounding area.
