About the service

Gloucester Road provides a home for up to 16 adults, who currently range in age from their 20s to their early 70s. We work alongside various Community mental health teams across the Kingston Borough, including the early interventions teams supporting residents with both long and short term rehabilitation and to move on to more independent living.

The house is a large, attractive, two-storey detached house built in the 1900s with a 1960s-style extension. We have a large garden at the back of the house and a small garden at the front. There is disabled access at the front of the house. All residents have their own rooms, and share communal areas including a lounge, kitchen and laundry facilities. Staff will support anyone who wants to move on into more independent housing while they settle into their new home.

Residents clean their own rooms themselves, but a cleaner comes in to help with the communal areas. Residents are supported to be as independent as possible and are supported by staff with cooking and food preparation where necessary.

There are seven social-care workers on the staff team who provide 24-hour care, with at least two staff on duty at all times during the day, and two sleeping in overnight.

House meetings are held once a month at which residents and staff discuss and make decisions on house matters, including possible outings and trips.

The home is in Kingston, near Richmond Park to the north and the Thames and the town centre to the south. There are excellent shopping and leisure facilities in the area, including various day centres, Kingstonian Football Club, a swimming pool, a library, restaurants, cinemas, pubs and shops. There is easy access to rail and bus links into London and elsewhere.
