ABOUT THE SERVICE: THE BASICS
Approach and outlook The project provides independent accommodation with support for 14 indviduals. It is funded by Joint Finance and the Housing Corporation.
A three-bedroom house is planned for the future to accommodate a family with a member who has mental health needs.
It is hoped that an outreach service can be developed which will support people with mental health needs in their own homes in Newbury.
Location The project is across two sites: Garland Court (Berkeley Road) and Bramble Court (Queens Road, Newbury). Both are within easy reach of shops and other local services.
SERVICE-USER PROFILE
Age/gender of service-users The accommodation is currently intended for individuals aged 18–65. It is hoped that a three-bedroom family house will soon be available.
Number of residents There are 14 places in self-contained flats.
Average length of stay or use of facilities While there is no limit on the length of stay, staff aim to encourage tenants to develop their independence and move on to other forms of housing.
STAFF AND FACILITIES
The staff team The staff team consists of a Manager, Core Support Workers and Sessional Support Workers.
Opening hours It is a flexible service providing 100 support hours per week. Staff may work at evenings and weekends in order to meet the needs of service-users.
Activities and support on offer Staff provide regular contact and encouragement to enable tenants to develop and maintain daily living skills, including:
- personal care
- shopping, catering and household tasks
- social activities
- budgeting and managing money.
Tenants are supported to seek meaningful employment and to pursue personal interests, as well as taking part in sporting or leisure activities where appropriate.
Staff monitor individuals’ health and wellbeing and follow the Care Programme Approach. They liaise with other professionals where necessary and can arrange specialist health care if required.

Type of accommodation Accommodation is provided in self-contained, partly-furnished flats.
