The aim now is for service-users to gain the skills and independence they need to move out within two years. The service provides a home for eight residents aged 18 upwards. The house is a large, detached building dating from the 1920s, situated in a residential area on the outskirts of Wellingborough. Four bungalows in the garden provide move-on accommodation. In the main house, residents all have their own rooms and share communal areas, including the lounge, kitchen, a conservatory and laundry facilities. House matters are discussed at weekly residents’ meetings, at which things like evening social events are planned. Service-users also have regular meetings with their key-workers, where support needs are discussed. All residents buy and cook their own meals, with support if required. The staff team consists of seven full-time workers who provide 24-hour cover, although staff may not always be on the premises. Good local resources in Wellingborough include adult education, sheltered workshops and support groups.
