The Role

Together is an amazing place to work. And it’s not just because we’re one of the UK’s oldest and most respected mental health charities. It’s because we put the people who use our services at the heart of everything we do – supporting and enabling them to take control of their lives and make a positive contribution to the community.

Swale Your Way is a well-established and innovative community support service providing vital 1-1 goal focssed support, a broad ranging programme of group activities & workshops and has a long tradition of delivering an innovative peer support service.

At Together we strongly believe that people experiencing mental distress can lead their own positive lives. Furthermore people with lived experience can provide valuable support to people going through something similar.

Our model of Peer Support is when people with experience of mental distress support each other towards better wellbeing, as people of equal value and on a reciprocal basis, using their own lived experience as a tool for support.

The Peer Support & Volunteer Coordinator will work in a fully integrated team to provide high quality peer support and volunteer support over a variety of one-to-one and group support opportunities to promote user involvement, user empowerment among people with mental health needs.

The Peer Support & Volunteer Coordinator role is key to ensuring lived experience is at the heart of everything that we do; that people with lived experience of mental health issues and using mental health services are able to use this experience to support others in similar situations; to increase their social networks, reduce stigma and self-manage their own wellbeing.

The post holder must have lived experience of mental distress themselves, and be able to share parts of their own lived experience in their role.

The post-holder will deliver on the ongoing recruitment and training of all Volunteers, including Peer Supporters, at the service, whilst sourcing, providing and facilitating training opportunities in preparation for potential future employment opportunities.

We are looking for an inspiring and driven individual to coordinate and support the project’s team of peer supporters and volunteers to help improve the lives of the people using the service.

Service is delivered flexibly across Swale, with focus on Sheerness and Sittingbourne, some regular travel required, flexible working and home working options available.

We have a firm commitment to encouraging fairness and diversity in our work force and we welcome applications from disabled people and those from BME backgrounds.
