Basingstoke Reachout Service works with homeless people who have mental health problems and substance-misuse issues, supporting them to find housing and access the other services that they need.
The service’s two Reachout Workers work closely with local community mental health and drug and alcohol teams, Basingstoke and Deane Council and local homeless shelters to fill a gap in local service provision.
What’s on offer Currently the service supports 15 to 20 people at any one time, signposting them to any agencies that they might need, supporting them to apply for housing, and offering continuing support to make sure that people maintain their tenancies once they have found a home.
Who can use the service? This service, which was set up in 1999, is currently funded by Supporting People, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Hampshire County Council. Referrals come from hospitals, local community mental health teams, the local homeless hostel, local community drug and alcohol teams and from individuals themselves.
