Captivated - an exhibition to humanise the datained!
From June 16th 2008, Together Working for Wellbeing and Cageprisoners will present Captivated, an exhibition that aims to raise awareness of the problematic nature of counter-terrorism detention in the UK. The exhibition seeks to humanise those detained beyond the guilty before proven innocent image presented by the Media.
Together Working for Wellbeing understands that those detained may experience mental distress and, as an organisation, we are concerned about the mental needs of those detained and their friends and family.
With the first arrests in 2001, the UK has fallen into the trap of enforcing legislation in a bid to tackle suspected terrorism. Despite numerous statements that "our values" will not be changed by the terrorists, the country now finds itself in a position where detention without charge is prevalent through various forms of legislation.
At the private view on June 16th, Moazzam Begg, a Former Guantanamo Bay detainee, will speak alongside Baroness Helena Kennedy QC and many other wishing to debate these issues further. If you would like to attend our private view, please ensure you contact Vicky Kington to register your place by Friday, June 13th, 2008.
