Referrals accepted from Social services, health trust, out of county

The large, detached Edwardian house in Kelvin Grove offers a supportive home for up to 12 people aged between 18 and 65. The house provides each resident with their own bedroom, and shared communal areas include a living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry and a non-smoking conservatory.

Many people stay at Kelvin Grove for between two and three years, though the exact length varies according to the needs of each individual resident. The 11-strong social-care staff team provides 24-hour support, with at least two staff on duty during the day, and one sleeping in overnight.

Residents’ meetings are held fortnightly, giving residents a chance to discuss issues with their peers and staff.

A cook prepares an evening meal every day, with help from residents. Other meals are chosen and prepared on an individual basis with help from staff where necessary. Residents clean their own rooms, and clean the communal rooms on a rota basis with assistance and support from staff.

In addition to working in Kelvin Grove, staff also provide a ‘floating’ support service to people with mental health needs living in their own homes in the local community.
