This day service was first set up in 1976, but Together has managed the Centre since 2000 and we are working hard to develop it into a service that promotes wellbeing more holistically, and places a greater emphasis on social inclusion and community integration.
What happens at the Centre? We are based at Silchester Mews in a community resource centre managed by the Hastings Trust, which we share with a variety of other groups. People come along to take part in activities including arts and crafts, creative writing, sports, first-aid training, ‘get-togethers’, classes on self-esteem and self-confidence, and music and relaxation classes.
We also aim to help people to access local resources and activities, so that they can feel part of their community. The centre offers advocacy, guidance on benefits, building daily-living skills and general good health. We can also provide emotional and practical support on a one-to-one basis to help service-users resolve any issues arising from their mental health problems.
We have good links with Hastings College and Lifelong Learning Programmes at various sites within the local community, and are building relationships with other community projects to help us provide even more opportunities for anyone using the service to meet new people and get involved with other activities.
When is the Centre open? We are open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm.
Meals A light lunch is provided for a cost. Teas and coffee are available for a small charge.
What next? In the future, we hope to be able to offer people other opportunities for learning and development, including guidance on healthy eating and exercise, yoga and meditation.
